Match report: Sheffield Oaks vs Leeds Corinthians (Yorkshire Silver Trophy)

2015-09-19 16.05.21

Sheffield Oaks slipped to a third defeat of the season on Saturday in their Yorkshire Silver Trophy match against Leeds Corinthians.

An early period of pressure promised much for the home side as they dominated territory and possession for the opening 50 minutes. Despite being held up over the line twice, the only score to that point was a breakaway by the visiting number 8. With the game in the balance, a series of scrum penalties turned the game on its head and lead to a flurry of late tries.

27-3 against the Oaks was the final score, with poor finishing again costing the Hillsborough side. A depleted 2s side also suffered defeat against a very strong Doncaster Phoenix 3s team, while Ladies’ Day at the club was a roaring success.

Saturday brings the crunch match against Rotherham Clifton to Niagara, while the 2s travel to Pontefract. We will be watching the England-Wales match in our regular haunt The Fox & Duck in Broomhill. All are welcome to join us for what should be an excellent evening of international rugby.
