Match report: Sheffield Oaks vs Rotherham Clifton

Oaks came out of the blocks quickest against local rivals Rotherham Clifton with back rows Callum Schofield, Alex Taylor and Joel Fulford dominating around the breakdown. However, despite good pressure and field position, Oaks went in at half time 6-10 down after seeing three forwards leave the field injured.

Oaks again started the second half brightest and some excellent running look set to bring a glut of tries, only for handling errors to deny at least three certain scores.

In a matter of minutes Oaks were rocked by the further injuries in the backs which meant a complete reshuffle of the team. The changes allowed Clifton to start dominating and they soon scored their second try.

Oaks hit back with a try of their own through the prolific Callum Schofield and suddenly were back in control. However a late breakaway try, against the run of play, was the final blow making the score after the last whistle 13-29.

The firsts have a weekend off this week while the 2s travel to Rotherham Phoenix 2s looking for their first win of the season.
