Sheffield Oaks slipped to an agonising defeat on Saturday, this time on the road at local rivals Mosborough.
The Oaks started strongly and dominated the contact area with a series of early thrusts. It wasn’t long before pressure was turned into points as number 8 Alex Taylor fed scrum half Aled Vaughan to crash over from a 5m scrum. The conversion was missed, but a Joe Henson penalty put the visitors 8-0 up after half an hour.
Mosborough hit back after half time with a try of their own, a series of Oaks handling errors gift-wrapping a simple run in. After turning 7-8 down, there came ten minutes shortly after half time where the pendulum swung thorough towards the home team. Another converted try and a penalty, after a string of offside infringements by the Oaks, put Mos in the driving seat at 17-8 up.
The momentum changed again though, and the last thirty minutes were spent entirely in the Mosborough 22 as intense Oaks pressure, especially from man-mountain Lewis Huffman, was somehow repelled. The final score was a deeply frustrating 17-11 to Mosborough.
Oaks 1s have a week off this Saturday, while the 2s are at home to Stocksbridge in a 1:30pm kick off.
