This Wednesday (August 24th) the Oaks will battle it out with South Yorkshire Police in the annual Simon Allen Memorial Match at Niagara Park (S6 1LU), 6:15pm kick off.
The tradition began in 1982, following the untimely death of Oaks player Simon Allen. Allen was former Myers Grove pupil and Oaks rugby player who was due to become a student at Cambridge University when he died.
The match was originally played between Sheffield Oaks and West Barbarians until 2001. Since then Oaks have played the South Yorkshire Police, who defended the trophy by a point last year in a tightly fought contest. Some familiar old faces always make an appearance, and we would like to invite all Oaks players, past and present, to come and support from the touch line.
In club news, there will only be one training session this week – on Tuesday 6:30-8:30pm in Parson Cross Park. Our last preseason match is also on Saturday, away at Creswell with a 3pm kick off.
Preparations are going well for the league season at our new home in Parson Cross Park. Our first match is at home to Knaresborough on Saturday 3rd September, 3pm kick off.
